New Literacies in an Era of Participatory Culture

Participatory Culture is when members are free to contribute to society with their creation of problem-solving on an issue that is being valued.  It also related to the new literacies of online reading comprehension that create new skills for meaningful decision making. The “Confronting the Challenges of Participatory Culture: Media Education for the 21 st Century” paper mentioned  that media is a social mode of production, and I agree with this point. He also mentioned that participatory culture revolves around learning and investigating with technology and creating something and solving problems by thinking out of the box to change society. Embracing participatory cultures into everyday practice in classrooms are vital and teachers need to be guides for the learners.  There might be some difficulties the teacher and the students face, but it is how these problems are being dealt with rather than to avoid having problems....

Position Statement

I personally support Kozma’s position because in his article it is emphasized on how attributions are variables in media theory while Clark pointed out that it is not necessary for a medium!  Also, using media to influence learning as a result, in looking for sufficient conditions when learning in-seat classroom fails to occur.  In Kozma's conclusion, I do agree that changing our view of educational technology to advance and develop with teaching. That way, we will be able to improve and move forward in education and learning! As for my statement on the media’s influence in learning, is a great potential to create especially in this digital age as a connection between media and learning!  I believe nowadays learners become bored very easily in the classrooms, also they would get distracted and lose interest.  In my opinion, it’s a great way to integrate technology in the learning process and not to be too focused only on technology at the same time....

The Role of Teachers In A Digital Age

Integrating technology into classrooms is a great way for our students to learn on their own and comfortable pace. Yet, many views this as making learners work harder while teachers are not doing much in their lesson. This is an incorrect perspective of the teachers’ role in the classroom in the era of the 21st century of digital learning. I will explain my point of view concerning three questions to address the role of teachers in a technological time. 1.      What are the emerging trends in educational technology? There are many trends emerging in educational technology and many schools are applying it into their classroom.
