My Personal Goals

My three personal goals I set at the beginning of the semester for using technology: 1. Using Telegram Messenger to communicate with learners without giving out my personal cell number. To use it as a tool to  answer questions, to correct sentences and sending audio/video recordings. Here they have a more private setting to share their thoughts among their peers. 2. Using Twitter to have learners correct or to comment on their peers' tweets. Here the learners can use  E mojis  rather than having a plaintext as well as in  Telegram , which has the learners feel more comfortable . 3. Using  Google Classroom  that it can create a safe and private virtual classroom for learners to communicate with peers and the teacher as an online discussion board. As of now, I had a few difficulties in reaching my goals this semester. Teaching ESL parents from Mexico as part of my practicum, it was challenging having them work outside of the cl...

The Role of Teachers In A Digital Age

Integrating technology into classrooms is a great way for our students to learn on their own and comfortable pace. Yet, many views this as making learners work harder while teachers are not doing much in their lesson. This is an incorrect perspective of the teachers’ role in the classroom in the era of the 21st century of digital learning. I will explain my point of view concerning three questions to address the role of teachers in a technological time. 1.      What are the emerging trends in educational technology? There are many trends emerging in educational technology and many schools are applying it into their classroom. There has been learning through social media, gamification , collecting online data (feedback) and immersing learning through AR and VR. 2.      How do they reshape the culture of learning and teaching? This reshapes how we, teachers, can enhance our ways of teaching beyond the traditional learning/teaching and t...

New Literacies in an Era of Participatory Culture

Participatory Culture is when members are free to contribute to society with their creation of problem-solving on an issue that is being valued.  It also related to the new literacies of online reading comprehension that create new skills for meaningful decision making. The “Confronting the Challenges of Participatory Culture: Media Education for the 21 st Century” paper mentioned  that media is a social mode of production, and I agree with this point. He also mentioned that participatory culture revolves around learning and investigating with technology and creating something and solving problems by thinking out of the box to change society. Embracing participatory cultures into everyday practice in classrooms are vital and teachers need to be guides for the learners.  There might be some difficulties the teacher and the students face, but it is how these problems are being dealt with rather than to avoid having problems....

Immersive Learning: Creating "an" Experience

The notion of emerging technology to promote learning through experience is more than creating an engaging and playful experience. In the article, it explained Dewey’s intention of the term “an” experience. Dewey described experience as a unity among its constituent elements, a possibility of how things might come together, a dramatic quality (a powerful play) and an aesthetic quality (idealized and optimal experience). Furthermore, Dewey’s philosophy is not as simple as it sounds since many perceived it in the wrong direction. It is to have sufficient educative experience, I believe, to emerge from not only participating, but it creates and involves the learners in the learning process. Also, he explained how ideas are powerful lenses to guide and reflect on an actual situation. When emerging technology to create “an” educational experience, it helps students to transform their own experience and create ideas that fully perceives the world.

Wise Integration of Technology

The SAMR Model which originally created by Dr. Ruben Puentedura that divides technology integration in the classrooms. There are two large/macro steps and within each step, it has two micro-steps of technology integrations.   It is more than a ladder and taking steps, it’s a range of elements that connect each other.  Triple E Framework developed by Professor Liz Kolb in 2011 to evaluate how to choose tools to meet educators learning goals for their learners. This is proven to be a reliable and valid tool used in education with a clear instructional strategy. This framework focuses on learning goals that measure practical technology uses by students. It also focuses on learners’ practices on technology tools to have an effective learning opportunity. To illustrate my own description of this topic, the framework and model do solidify my understanding of wise technology integration. I believe the framework and model work together, connecting each point and...

Position Statement

I personally support Kozma’s position because in his article it is emphasized on how attributions are variables in media theory while Clark pointed out that it is not necessary for a medium!  Also, using media to influence learning as a result, in looking for sufficient conditions when learning in-seat classroom fails to occur.  In Kozma's conclusion, I do agree that changing our view of educational technology to advance and develop with teaching. That way, we will be able to improve and move forward in education and learning! As for my statement on the media’s influence in learning, is a great potential to create especially in this digital age as a connection between media and learning!  I believe nowadays learners become bored very easily in the classrooms, also they would get distracted and lose interest.  In my opinion, it’s a great way to integrate technology in the learning process and not to be too focused only on technology at the same time....
